Couldn’t help but think of my mother when I saw this. She went missing when I was three. I remember her smile most of all, it was as if a thousand sun rays had embedded into her flesh and reincarnated as pearly white jewels. And seeing this sign, it reminds me of how present she really is. I don’t know where she is or what has become of her, if she still exists, but she will always live in my heart. I will never lose the memory of the pulsing aura that followed as she glided about the earth. She was a goddess. Other-worldly. Electrifying.
I remember going to this cafe on one quiet winter night. The snow had already set and the cool winds were calming. The cafe was empty, despite the few depressive waitresses. The girl who took my order was named Crystal. Her face did not move as she went over the list of specials in a monotonous fashion. In fact, I hardly remember her words at all, but I will never forget her lips. They were large and painted, flapping with every dull word that escaped her moth. The cherry red pigment smeared against her bubble gum as she blew large bubbles across her face, and then crushing them with her pearl teeth. She never said a word to me outside of her basic routine, and, yet, I never forgot her face. It’s weird how, at random points, her face will reappear in my memory. I guess tonight is just one of those nights.
